Client Expense Fund

Help intercountry adoptee clients pay filing fees for naturalization ($725) and Certificates of Citizenship ($1,170). My work for these clients is already pro bono (free), or low bono (significantly reduced cost on an ability-to-pay basis).

Current Goal: Three intercountry adoptee clients are ready to file applications for naturalization—the only option currently available to them to secure US citizenship—even though they were adopted by US citizens decades ago (one adopted in 1960). Each client must pay a $725 filing fee to USCIS to file completed Applications for Naturalization. As of January 10, 2023, we have raised $1,630 of the overall goal of $2,175—we’ve got $545 to go. Huge thanks to all of you who have donated, in amounts ranging from $5.00 to $500.00.

  • Any amount donated is greatly appreciated. If I ever raise more than what is needed, any excess amount will be donated to Adoptees United, a national tax-exempt nonprofit organization dedicated to adoptee rights.
  • This field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.

Prior Needs Met (you all rock!): We previously raised enough money to pay a client’s adjustment of status fee of $1,225; we are now waiting for his interview. We also raised and paid a $725 fee for a client’s naturalization application to become a US citizen. That client is now a US citizen. Two other clients were required to pay $1,170 each in USCIS filing fees for applying for certificates of citizenship. Both now have certificates of citizenship (and US passports), which made both travel and employment much easier to secure.
